Lottery scam: Nigerian nationals held

Hyderabad, September 29: Andhra Pradesh CID sleuths have arrested four Nigerians in New Delhi who dupe people by fake lottery and shifted them to Hyderabad. According to details the complainant a lady teacher received an SMS on her mobile phone in which she was informed about winning 1 crore ponds during ICC cricket world cup and was asked to contact one Dr. Dennice in this connection.

Believing that the SMS was genuine, the teacher deposited Rs 45.49 lakh into eight ICICI Bank accounts and five SBI accounts for customs clearance and release of revenue code. When she did not receive any response from the sender, she approached the CID and a case was booked.

Cyber crime superintendent of police Mr. U Ram Mohan succeeded in hunting the frauds by tracing them through digital investigation lab by way of the phone numbers received by the complainant.

CID team then nabbed and arrested 4 Nigerian nationals including two women. Rita Esumel, Innocent Obozele, Stephen Elabor and Victiria Innocent and brought them on transit warrant to Hyderabad. Following the interrogation, Rs 35,000 cash, a gold ring and a gold chain weighing around 35 grams were seized from the accused.

After shifting them to Hyderabad the fraud Nigerians were sent to jail after producing them in a local court.
