Lorry owners go on strike today – Transportation of essential items get affected

Hyderabad: No lorry would run on the roads of Telangana State from 6 a.m. today. General Secretary of Telangana Lorry Owners’ Association, Mr. G. Durga Prasad told that including Telangana, this strike is being organized in 6 states. Lorries will not carry even essential articles like rice, wheat, sugar, cement and sand. However, the transport commissioner told that Milk, Petrol and Diesel would be available. He has invited the office bearers of Telangana Lorry Owners’ Association today at 11 a.m. but the strike has already started this morning. Lorry Owners’ are opposing the rise in insurance charges and also hike in diesel rates. They are also opposing the ban imposed by the Govt. to stop 15-year-old vehicles. The other demands include single permit system for the drivers in A.P. and Telangana, drivers’ arrest under section 304 (a) and cancellation of drivers’ license in case of overloads.
