Lonely Father’s Day for Zoya

Mumbai, June 22: Two-month-old Zoya for whom lawyers sought anticipatory bail yesterday after her father’s first wife filed a dowry case against the entire family, as reported in Sunday MiD DAY spent her first Father’s Day yesterday, sans her father.

After Zoya alias Mehak Khan was granted anticipatory bail, MiD DAY visited her house where the atmosphere was sombre since Zoya’s father Shamshuddin Khan was still behind bars.

“Maine kabhi socha nahin tha ki aaj ke din bhi Zoya ke pita uske saath nahi honge. I want him to be out of custody. I wish we could be with him today,” said Zoya’s mother Reshma Khan.

“We are going through a very bad time. His release will be the best Father’s Day gift for my daughter,” she added.

Reshma alleged that Shakila Khan (27), Shamshuddin’s first wife, had demanded a large sum from Khan, including 10-kg gold or a separate house.

“She told us that if he was unable to give the alimony, he would be jailed forever. We don’t mind giving her our entire property, but we want him released as soon as possible,” said Reshma.

Case so far

Senior Inspector Prakash Kale from Nehru Nagar police station said, “We had nothing to do with the bail. Further action will depend on the judge’s decision,” said Kale. Shamshuddin Khan will apply for bail on Wednesday again.
