London, August 09: Protesters from Turkey’s banned Islamic political group Hizb ut-Tahrir have staged a demonstration in front of the Turkish embassy in London.
The Saturday demonstrators were protesting the arrest of over 200 of their colleagues across Turkey two weeks ago.
About 300 people participated in the demonstration, saying that Turkey is losing its Islamic credentials by upholding a secular constitution which calls for the demolition of any resemblance of Islam within the society, a Press TV corresponded reported.
The protesters claimed the detained activists were peacefully calling for an Islamic state to be re-established in Turkey.
“This is actually a crime by the Turkish state, because they [those arrested] are not involved in any violent act,” Taji Mustafa, a Hizb ut-Tahrir member told Press TV’s correspondent.
“These are people simply offering a new vision, politically saying: The future of Turkey is to break with Israel. Turkey needs to embrace the Islamic world, this is its natural point,” he added.
Hizb ut-Tahrir has been banned in Turkey since 2004 after a court branded the group a terrorist organization.
