Lokpal Bill: Team Anna to meet BJP leaders today

New Delhi, July 01: Ahead of the all party meet scheduled on July 03, Anna Hazare along with his team will be meeting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, Friday, to garner support for their version of the Lokpal Bil.

Team Anna had met LK Advani earlier this week and were invited to come back to brief other senior leaders. However, party president Nitin Gadkari won’t be part of the discussions as he is in Berlin to attended a cultural festival celebrating the 30th anniversary of Sri Sri Ravishankar’s Art of Living Foundation.

As per reports, following the meeting with Anna Hazare, the BJP will hold an internal meeting and then a meeting of the NDA would be convened to chalk out their strategy on the issue.

Gadkari, before leaving for Germany, had told reporters that his party has yet to decide on attending the all-party meeting on the Lokpal called by the government on Sunday.

Yesterday, civil society members led by Anna Hazare had met Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for drumming up support for their version of the Lokpal Bill.

Interestingly, Nitish seemed non-committal on supporting Anna’s draft and said he will have detailed discussions within his party and with allies on the Lokpal Bill before taking a final stand on the issue.

The civil society representatives were also scheduled to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi yesterday, but the meeting was cancelled from the Congress side.

Team Anna is meeting political leaders across the board to build a consensus on the bill drafted by members of the civil society.

Five civil society representatives, led by Gandhian Anna Hazare, and an equal number of senior union ministers worked jointly over the past two months to draft a Lokpal Bill.
