Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Thursday suspended pepper spray wielder, L. Rajagopal and other Seemandhar MPs who created ruckus in the parliment.
The Lok Sabha commenced all of two minutes during which time Ms Meira Kumar read out the suspension order, after being adjourned in the wake of the ruckus created at noon by members of the pro-and anti-Telangana factions.
The Lok Sabha Speaker named the members and said that they had been suspended under Rule 374A, which says that a member can “be suspended from the service of the House for a period not exceeding the remainder of the session for disregarding the authority of the Chair or abusing the rules of the House by persistently and wilfully obstructing business”. The Speaker ordered those named to forth-with withdraw from the precincts of the House.
Ms Meira Kumar expressed anguish at the unruly behaviour of Parliamentarians and said it has “shamed the country and Parliament”. “What has happened is a blot on democracy,” she said.
