Members of the Lok Sabha on Monday expressed their condolences to the families affected by the massive earthquake that struck Nepal and Northern India, unanimously deciding to contribute one month’s salary towards the relief fund.
The discussion, which took place during the Zero Hour, saw members also informed of the government’s rescue efforts, as well as the decision to send a high-level inter-ministerial team to coordinate the same.
The Lok Sabha also passed the demands for grants for the Ministry of Human Resource Development, as well as taking up for discussion demands for grants for the Ministry of Home Affairs.
The Standing Committee recommended that the decision of the Ministry of Finance to delink schemes related to national security, from central funding, should be reviewed. In relation to disaster management, the Standing Committee further observed that there has been underutilization of funds related to infrastructure in the previous year, and allocations to the National Cyclone Risk Mitigation Project must be increased.
Meanwhile, members raised issues related to police modernisation, infrastructure development in areas affected by left wing extremism and decreased allocations for border management. (ANI)
