Local body polls after legal opinion on women quota: Anam

Hyderabad, August 25: Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy on Tuesday said that the government will soon take a decision on conducting local body elections in the state after clarifying the issue of implementation of 50 percent quota to women in the polls with legal experts.

Mr Ramnarayan Reddy said that the elections to local body were delayed due to enumeration of BCs and implementation of 50 per cent quota for women.

He said the state government had sought a report from Advocate General and legal experts on BCs’ enumeration and 50 per cent women’s quota issue in the local bodies’ election.

The government would take an appropriate decision after discussing the report in the Cabinet meeting, Mr Ramnarayan Reddy revealed.

The government would also take a decision on delimitation of wards before announcing schedule for local body polls.

The term of 92 municipalities and 11 corporations except the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation would expire on September 26. As per the Act, elections should be conducted to these local bodies by November.
