Municipal Administration Minister M Mahidhar Reddy on Thursday announced that the State Government was likely to conduct elections to local bodies before the by-elections to 18 Assembly segments in the State.
Talking to media persons after participating in a slew of development programmes in the East Godavari district, the Minister said that the government has to conduct elections to local bodies within 45 days after the completion of census work in the state. He hoped that the elections to local bodies would be announced before the next by-elections.
Stating that the government allotted Rs 2 crore for Nagara Panchayats development, he said that Rajahmundry would be given top priority in the second phase of implementation of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. He also warned that State Government would 10 to 20 per cent fine annually against those who fail to utilize the Building Regularisation Scheme/Building Penalisation scheme in the towns. (INN)
