Local bodies’ election results started pouring in indicated a tough fight between the Congress and TRS in Telangana and tug-of-war between Telugu Desam Party and YSRCP in Seemandhra districts.
Since manual counting through ballots was on, announcement of final results delayed. Of 6480 MPTC seats in Telangana, results for 2349 seats and 42 of 441 ZPTC seats were announced at around 4.40 pm. While Congress was found leading in Telangana local bodies, the TRS was found in second position. The Congress got 855 seats, the TRS got 722 seats and TDP was in third place and Left parties got about 80 seats by that time in Telangana 10 districts.
Similarly in Seemandhra 13 districts, 11 of 653 ZPTC seats and 3,537 seats out of 10,091 seats were announced by this evening. Of these the TDP got 1791 MPTC and 8 ZPTC seats while YSRCP got 1500 MPTC and three ZPTC seats. Besides, 196 others and remaining parties got. In Telangana, the TRS got about 30 ZPTC seats while the Congress got only 14. The results were seen similar to that of Municipalities results, the Congress is seen surpassing the TRS in South Telangana.
In Seemandhra region, the TDP outnumbered the YSRCP by 4.30 pm. While the counting began at 8 am there were complaints that in East Godavari district some ballots were dampened due to heavy rains. While in Nellore some ballot papers were found pestered and in some other places there were no facilities for counting staff which led to delay. State Election Commissioner Ramakanth Reddy said they will conduct repolling in some polling booths. Reddy maintained that the counting will be done transparently before the polling agents and officials and whole process will be video-graphed.
According to the information, in Telangana, Congress was ahead with 1063 MPTC seats and 48 ZPTC seats and TRS got 1015 MPTC and 82 ZPTC seats, while TDP got 316 MPTC and 6 ZPTC, BJP got 97 MPTC others got 411 MPTC seats at 6.15 pm. Similarly in Seemandhra TDP is ahead with 2633 MPTC and 22 ZPTC seats YSRCP got 2246 MPTC and 20 ZPTC seats and others got 192 MPTC seats. In both areas others may play a key role in tilting the balance. Ramakanth Reddy said that re-polling will be conducted in Nellore and other areas on May 18.
