Hyderabad: A money lender threw a petrol bomb on an elderly man and his grandson while they were sleeping outside their residence in Banjara Nagar in Borabanda on Tuesday night.
Deccan Chronicle reported that R. Yadagiri sustained minor injuries on his hands and legs while the 10-year-old boy, R. Arun, received 75 per cent burns. Boy was the student of Class V.
The accused Shyam attacked Yadagiri as the later was unable to return the loan of Rs 8 lakh taken from him by the deadline, said police.
The victim’s relative revealed that the loan shark attacked the man and his grandson while they were sleeping outside. He threw a flaming petrol bottle at them. He also locked the doors from the outside, preventing the inmates from coming out to rescue them.
The injured were taken to Gandhi Hospital for treatment and a complain was lodged against Shyam.
SR Nagar Police booked a case under Section 436 (mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to destroy house) and 307 (attempt to murder) of IPC and took Shyam into custody.
