Loan agents held for abetment to suicide

Bhopal, March 25: Two ICICI Bank recovery agents have been arrested with abetment to suicide charges in Bhopal.

One Dharmraj had allegedly committed suicide on March 12 after being harassed by the ICICI loan recovery agents.

Police have now registered an abetment to suicide case against three agents named in the note left behind by Dharmraj.

The two identified as Kamal and Raghavendra have been arrested, while the third is still at large but Dharamraj’s widow Shashi wants an exemplary punishment for the three.

“They have killed my husband, they should get punishment. They have finished my world. He was the only earning member of our family. What will happen to my children,” says Shashi.

What’s more shocking, according to the police, is that the recovery agents had indeed extorted money from Dharamraj and had not deposited it with the bank.

Superintendent of Police, Bhopal Abhay Singh said, “It has now been found that the three had taken money from Dharamraj and had not deposited the same with the bank. As far as other guidelines are concerned, we are looking into it.”

Agencies had first done the story on how harassment by recovery agents forced the 35-year-old man to commit suicide. The ICICI bank in an e-mailed reaction has said that none of the bank employees are involved in the incident and that this issue pertains to personnel of a service provider.

The bank spokesperson also informed that that the issue had been taken up with the service provider and that the services of the three accused had been terminated.
