LLRs expire as stir halts driving tests

Hyderabad, March 06: A day after the government employees called off their Non-Cooperation Movement (NCM), the after affects of the strike is being clearly felt by several applicants at the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) yesterday.

Several applicants, who had applied and were waiting to give their driving test had their learners license expired during the employees agitation. The officials of RTA informed these applicants that they “lost the opportunity” to give their driving test and that they would have to re-appear for the learners licence test and again pay the statutory fee and then re-apply for permanent driving license test.

The applicants are fuming as to why they have to pay for actions of employees.

They also questioned the validity of the system.

“I went to the Nagole RTA centre to find out the date to which my driving test was rescheduled but the officials said that I have to rewrite the learners licence exam as the validity is over. But how can I be made to face the difficulty for no reason. I have applied for the license well in advance and I got my slot prior to the expiry of learners license. If employees go on mass strike, the system should be in a position to make adjustments accordingly, ” N Rav i (name changed) told Express.

However, the officials of RTA said that they can do little as the computer system will not accept the applications for booking a slot for permanent driving test if the expiry date of the learner’s license lapses.

“The statutory provision is that LLR should be valid on the date of the driving test.

Otherwise the applicant has to give the LLR test again,” Joint Transport Commissioner B Venkateshwarulu said. The prescribed fee for LLR Rs.90 whereas for permanent license it is Rs.465. The rescheduled dates start from March 7 to 24.
