Liverpool’s hopes of qualifying for the Champions League suffered a huge blow after they failed to beat newly crowned Premier League champions Chelsea in the their 1-1 draw on Sunday night.
Veteran defender John Terry’s header put Chelsea ahead in the fifth minute, but Steven Gerrard leveled at the stroke of half-time.
Although Liverpool produced a spirited performance against Jose Mourinho’s men, they were unable to find a match winner in the absence of striker Diego Costa.
Liverpool’s manager Brendan Rodgers said that they sit in the fifth spot and if they want to make some steps, they need to find acquisitions in the summer to help them do that, the BBC reported.
Liverpool had the better chances of winning the match as Philippe Coutinho twice went close but was unable to score.
Rodgers’ side are six points behind fourth-placed Manchester United with two games left and an inferior goal difference, while Arsenal are assured of a place in the Champions League. (ANI)
