New Delhi: Mamata Banerjee-led TMC has surged ahead of the Left-Congress alliance in West Bengal, BJP was ahead in Assam while AIADMK and LDF were leading their rivals in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, according to early trends as the counting of votes began for the four state Assembly polls.
TMC was leading in 140 seats and the Left-Congress in 58 in the 294-seat West Bengal Assembly, according to television channels. BJP was also leading in three seats.
In 234-seat Tamil Nadu Assembly, the ruling AIADMK was locked in a tight battle with DMK. It was leading in 51 seats while DMK in 44, according to the channels.
CPI-M headed LDF in Kerala was leading in 81 of the 140 Assembly constituencies while ruling Congress-led UDF is ahead in 47, according to early trends after the first round of counting.
In 126-seat Assam Assembly, BJP-led NDA was ahead in 36 seats, Congress in 15 and AIUDF in 5.
