A little girl with a big voice!

Hyderabad, October 10: All of 10 years, Malvika Anand has already recorded her first album ‘Sri Hari Keerthanam.’ A student of Nasr School, Malvika is a complete musical package. Her debut album consists of songs in three different languages-Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Anand says she had fun recording the Tamil song as she did not know the language.

Ad jingles were what made Anand’s parents realise her interest in music. “She used to keep singing jingles all through the day so we decided to train her in carnatic music,” says Suchita Anand, Malvika’s mother. She then began her Carnatic classical music training under Ravathy Ratna Swamy. Talking about her guruji Ravathy Ratna Swamy, Malvika says,“She is a very good teacher and I have learnt a lot from her. I could not have gotten a better teacher.” Narrating her experiences about her first album, she noted: “They put me alone in the studio and put those big earphones around my head. That made me so nervous that I had to give many takes before the song was finalised.

I did not really enjoy the making of the album because of the nervousness and the first time experience, but I like the appreciation and recognition that I get post the album release.” Lata Mangeshkar being one of her favourite singers, Malvika likes singing more of devotional songs than movie songs. “We have not exposed her more to movie songs and video albums,” says her father Vivek Anand.

Malvika is no different than a normal child who loves her vanilla icecream and gulab jamun.

She hates sports and if given a chance will sit and watch TV whole day long. She loves decorating her house with diyas and rangoli for the upcoming Diwali festival and wants to wear traditional clothes.

This young girl has a long way to go and her parents and grandparents have been a source of encouragement.
