NEW DELHI: Little Baby Bum — YouTube’s 9th most-watched channel in the world just got sold for an undisclosed sum, first reported by Bloomberg.
The London-based couple Derek and Cannis Holder built the most popular YouTube Channel in 2011 which is also available on YouTube in multiple languages.
The exact sale price is confidential, but a social media marketing firm The Goat Agency told the Bloomberg that the husband-and-wife duo behind the popular channel likely made between $8 and $11 million for the channel.
The British children’s channel, which has over 16 million subscribers and 2 billion views was bought by a newly-formed firm called Moonbug.
Moonbug was launched by former Walt Disney employee Rene Rechtman, and two Co. employee Alfred Chubb and John Robson of WildBrain, a Colorado-based animation studio, owned by Canada’s DHX Media, which controls Ben 10, Popeye and the Teletubbies and other beloved kids brands.
One of their most-watched educational videos, a 54-minute-long compilation of children’s animated nursery rhymes entitled “Wheels on the Bus,” is the 20th most-popular video in YouTube history, with 2.1 billion views.
The married entrepreneur duo features longer videos around the hour mark so as to keep children occupied for extended periods.
“We’d come to a crossroads to take the company to the next level,” Derek told Bloomberg. “To get from that to what really needs to happen now for the brand is that it needs to have a proper team to upscale it.”
