Liquor banned on Kerala highways

Thiruvananthapuram: Supreme court passed a ruling on Ban of liquor selling within 500 meters near the highways in April after a petition by Harman Singh Sandhu, 46, a victim who cannot walk and is now bound to a wheelchair after a road accident 20 years ago.

On Wednesday Kerala liquor shop workers and government employees marched against the ban for loosing their daily livelihood. Around 1 lakh workers could loose their job’s due to the Supreme Court’s Decision.Nearly 1.4 lakh people died in road accidents in 2015, an average of 400 deaths every day.
