Los Angeles: Linkin Park singer Chester Bennington, was found dead in his home near Los Angeles on Thursday. The 41-year-old vocalist was famous worldwide for his voice and meaningful song lyrics.
Brian Elias, the chief of operations for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, confirmed the death, in Palos Verdes Estates, and said it was being investigated as a possible suicide after law enforcement authorities responded to a call shortly after 9 am, reports NY times.
The group sold 10 million copies of their 2000 debut, “Hybrid Theory,” and then another 4 million with 2003’s multiplatinum “Meteora.” Both albums explored feelings of frustration and anguish.
Bennington had a troubled childhood, his parents got divorced at an age of 11. He also suffered sexual abuse as a child. “When I was young, getting beaten up and pretty much raped was no fun,” he told The Guardian in 2011. “No one wants that to happen to you and honestly, I don’t remember when it started.”
He was quite open about his alcohol and drug addiction in the media.”I remember that stuff happening to me at that stage and even thinking about it now makes me want to cry,” he said. “My God, no wonder I became a drug addict. No wonder I just went completely insane for a little while,” Bennington said.
Bennington has six children from two relationships. The band was to start a tour in Boston next week.
