Hyderabad, december 17: The second-day schedule of the $50,000 Indian Open Grand Prix badminton tournament went for a toss because of faulty laying of the Hova courts at the Kotla Vijaya Bhaskar Reddy Indoor Stadium.
In what can be termed as an embarrassment, matches particularly on Court 2 and 4 had to be stopped as the tape came out of the court. The organisers had to fix the court. The first round match between Arvind Bhat and B Sai Praneeth had to be played on three courts much to annoyance of the players. “It is all because of faulty lying of courts on the wooden flooring. There was no proper supervision by organisers when courts were being laid last night. Because of the heat, the tapes came out resulting in unevenness on the court,’’ said an official. According to an official, in the past the late Nani Prasad took care while laying courts. “We miss him today,’’ said AP Badminton Association official.
