Lindsey Vonn claims 62nd career victory to equal women’s record for most WC wins

Champion American skier Lindsey Vonn recorded the 62 nd victory of her career to equal the women’s record for most World Cup wins at Sunday’s race in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.

Vonn, a two-time world champion and an Olympic gold medallist in Alpine Ski, recorded a winning time of one minute 39.61 seconds, which was 0.32 seconds ahead of Elisabeth Goergl of Austria.

It was Vonn’s third win of the season after returning to action following two serious knee injuries, the BBC reported.

Vonn, who is in sixth place in the World Cup series standings, can break Austria n Annemarie Moser-Proell’s 35-year-old record in a super-G race scheduled for Monday.

Vonn said that she felt the record was just getting ahead of the actual skiing, adding that she is happy that the story is hopefully behind her now so she can just move forward and continue to do her best and hopefully get a lot more wins.
