Light showers in some places in Punjab, Haryana

Chandigarh:People in the northern plains today received slight respite from biting cold wave conditions as the minimum temperature rose by a few notches even as some cities in Punjab and Haryana received light showers.

Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, recorded a minimum temperature of 11.4 degrees Celsius, which was five notches above normal. The city also received light rain.

In Haryana, Ambala, which received light showers, recorded a low of 11.7 degrees Celsius, up five notches against normal.

Hisar’s minimum settled at 9.4 degrees Celsius, up three degrees while Karnal, which received light rain, registered a low of 9.8 degrees Celsius, up three degrees against normal.

In Punjab, Amritsar, which was lashed by moderate rains (8.9 mm), recorded a low of 7.4 degrees Celsius, up four degrees against normal.

Ludhiana and Patiala, too received light rain, and the respective above normal minimum temperature at the two places was recorded at 9.7 degrees Celsius and 10.6 degrees Celsius.

Among other places in the two states which received rain included Bathinda, Gurdaspur, Nawanshahr, Pathankot, Faridkot, Adampur and Halwara in Punjab, and Panchkula, Jind, Kaithal, Sirsa in Haryana.
