Hyderabad, January 22: At a seminar organised by the Telangana Electronic Media Journalists Union (TEMJU) in the city on Friday, students’organisations of Telangana demanded lifting of cases against Telangana students.
Leaders of various students’ organisations and political parties attended the seminar on “Cases against ‘Telangana students and job notifications’.
The seminar was held in the context of the job notifications by the state government to fill thousands of vacancies.
Activists demanding Telangana statehood alleged that more than 2,000 students in the region had been booked under various sections during the past two and half years.
Etela Rajender, TRS leader said, “The notifications for the jobs are the result of the Telangana struggle. The state government is filing serious cases against students and people’s representatives of Telangana to dissuade them from struggle.” He appealed to the students to form a united Student JAC to fight against these oppressive measures.
“The disunity among students is the main reason for foisting cases on them. The state government, globalization has corrupted the student community, which is more dangerous than arrests or foisting cases”, said Allam Narayana, Convener of TJF.
Madhu Yashki, Congress MP, said people should not doubt the integrity of the Congress MPs and asked students not to wait till the 2014 elections to get a separate state. Waging a sincere struggle was the only way to get the cases lifted, he added.
M V Ramana, president of TEMJU, said, “As a union of professional journalists, we can only facilitate the struggling organisations to come on to one platform, but the onus of building a united platform is on the students’ organisations.” He also appealed all the student organisations to chalk out a common programme to force the government to lift the cases.
Balka Suman, president of TRSV, criticised the central and state home ministers for not keeping their promise to lifting the cases on students. He appealed to all the student organisations to put up a united fight on this issue.
“The state government is hell-bent on oppressing the movement through different measures and notifications for jobs is one among them. How can the students prepare for competitive exams with criminal cases on them?” asked T Venkat, general secretary of the Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika.
Speakers at the seminar included Veerababu of Bahujan Student Federation, Anjaneyulu of AISF, Gautam Prasad of PDSU and Panduranga Reddy of ABVP.
