Srinagar, July 14: Life returned to normal in Kashmir barring Maisuma in Srinagar, Dolipora-Trehgam in Kupwara and Shopian district, on Tuesday after a week as shops and business establishments reopened and transport resumed operations in the Valley.
Government offices, educational institutions, banks and semi-government institutions also reopened in the Valley today, official sources said.
The establishments, however, remained closed in Maisuma locality of the city for the seventh successive day today in support of the demand of locals to nab the killers of Asrar Mushtaq Dar, recovery of whose body triggered massive protests in the area and general strike since Wednesday (July 8).
Similarly, residents of Dolipora-Trehgam in frontier district of Kupwara, 100 kms from here, are on strike for last five days demanding arrest of colleagues of territorial army jawan Ashaq Hussain Pir, arrested in connection with the mysterious death of a college girl Amina Masoodi, on July 10.
Pir has been accused of trying to molest the girl on the intervening night of July 9-10. Pir’s colleagues helped him to escape from the scene but he was later arrested.
The strike in Shopian, 52 kms from here, entered 46th day today in support of the demand for identification and punishment of the killers of two women, who were allegedly raped and murdered on the intervening night of May 29-30.
