Faizabad, August 18: A special court here awarded life imprisonment to six persons today in connection with the kidnap and murder of a Dalit property dealer in March 2006.
Special judge of Faizabad Gangster Court, R S Yadav, found all the six accused guilty of kidnapping and killing Ramesh Kumar over a dispute of property and handed down the prison term.
According to the prosecution, Ajay Yadav, Suresh Yadav, Rajesh Yadav, Viren Yadav, Chillar Yadav and Kaushalendra Pandey kidnapped Kumar on March 6, 2006 from the premises of sub-registrar office here and demanded a ransom of Rs 2 lakhs from his brother Santosh Kumar for his release.
Next day, a body was found in Saryu river near Cantt police station area, which was identified as of Ramesh.
On Santosh’s complaint, all the accused were arrested.
