Life ban on Md. Azharuddin illegal:HC

Relief to former Indian skipper Mohammad Azharuddin, the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday termed the life ban imposed on him illegal.

While responding to a plea by the former Indian captain in a match-fixing case, a division bench of Andhra High Court said that the ban was unsustainable by law.

Azhar, who was banned for life from playing all forms of cricket in 2000 by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) along with some other cricketers, appealed against the life ban imposed on him, asking the court to lift the ban.

The Hyderabadi had challenged the Indian cricket board’s decision in the City Civil Court, which upheld the ban. He then moved to high court against the lower court’s order, his lawyers arguing that the BCCI imposed the ban without any evidence.
