Libya’s move towards Shariah laws sends chill among Christian community

Libya has recently decided its new constitution will be based on Shariah law, which has caused panic among the nation’s small Christian community.

Last month, the national assembly voted in favor of making Koranic law, or Shariah, the basis of all legislative decisions.

The move means Islam will shape all future banking, criminal and financial cases.

According to Fox News, the General National Congress after the vote said that Islamic law is the source of legislation in Libya.

The move means that Libya’s Coptic Christians, who are about five percent of the population, will have to comply with the law.

A special committee has begun reviewing existing laws to ensure that they comply with Shariah, report added.(ANI)
