Libyan PM’s Saudi visit successful

Libyan Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thani’s talks in Saudi Arabia have been positive, Foreign Minister Mohammed al-Dairi said.

During his three-day visit to Saudi Arabia, Thani had talks with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud al-Faisal, Deputy Crown Prince Muqrin bin Abdulaziz and intelligence chief Prince Khaled bin Bandar on issues of mutual concern, MENA news agency reported Saturday.

He arrived in Riyadh Wednesday.

“Al-Thinni believes in the importance of Libya’s relationship with Saudi Arabia and hopes that this visit will enhance bilateral cooperation in various fields,” Arab News quoted a Saudi government official as saying.

Saudi Arabia closed its embassy in Libya as the country’s army chief ordered a powerful Islamist militia group to be deployed in Tripoli after the parliament was stormed by troops loyal to a renegade general in May.

All Saudi diplomatic staff subsequently left the Libyan capital.
