Johannesburg : Retired two-time Grand Slam champion Li Na believes that world number one Serena Williams, who is aiming to equal Steffi Graf’s Open-era record of 22 Grand Slams, will be untouchable at the Australian Open if she sets her mindset on winning.
Expressing her views on Serena, the 33-year-old said that she loved to play against Serena as she used to be a real challenge for her.
Li Na, who retired in 2014 to settle down and look after her child, said that Serena had been playing really well, adding that she did not expect her to retire at a moment even if she surpasses Graf’s record.
Earlier in the day, Serena kicked off her 2016 season on a winning note as she swept aside Camila Giorgi of Italy 6-4, 7-5 to storm into the second round of Australian Open.
The American tennis prodigy, who had earlier missed both China Open and the WTA Finals in Singapore after her US Open defeat, won three Grand Slams in 2015 namely the Australian Open, the French Open and Wimbledon. (ANI)
