New Delhi: Lt. Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday directed the Delhi Police to upgrade the technical skills of beat officers to meet future challenges.
Baijal gave the direction during a review meeting of law and order situation in the city, which was attended by other senior bureaucrats and police officers.
He also encouraged the practice of beat officers visiting senior citizens as it gives them a sense of security, an official statement said.
About 8,000 police personnel including 700 women personnel have been deployed as beat officers across 163 police stations of the city.
Baijal also encouraged the recent initiative of briefing police personnel in a public area, instead of the police station premises, in east police district and directed it to be implemented in other parts of the city.
“LG also advised to introduce a system for incentivising as well as disincentivising the performing and non-performing officials respectively so as to keep the staff motivated to discharge their duties effectively,” the statement read.
