Agartala, February 27: The Left Font today registered a massive
victory in the Tripura Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) village
committee elections and byelections in 73 village panchayats and
seven panchayat samitis in non-ADC area, held on February 24.
Election officials said here that 461 village committees of 527
were captured by the Left Front, while Opposition Congress-INPT and
Independent candidates won 56 and one villages respectively.
Earlier, Left front candidates had won nine village committees
without contest.
Similarly, Left front swept all seven panchayat samitis and 65 of
73 panchayats in byelection and Opposition Congress succeeded in
eight village panchayats.
Leader of the Opposition Ratan Lal Nath said despite several odds
and conspiracies they able to win double number of village
committees than last elections, while CPI(M) state Secretary Bijan
Dhar said they would analyse the result, as it reduced both in vote
margin as well as number of village committees.
The counting was began yesterday morning, but it took 24 hours
since the vote had been conducted in ballot papers, said State
Election Commissioner Y P Singh and added that the election process
was peaceful except a single incident in Jampuijala, near Agartala
last evening.
According to report, at least 15 people from both the Left Front
and Opposition Congress-INPT were injured and police constable
Ranjan Debbarma died of cardiac arrest following clash between both
the party supporters during counting.
”In the first round CPI-M had won Kalaibari seat with a margin
of only one vote against INPT. Recounting resulted in a tie and when
the second recounting it went to CPI-M and the Opposition alleged
conspiracy behind it that led to pelting stones,” Mr Singh said.
