Letter writing a lost art, post box at risk of extinction

Letter writing or posting has become a thing of past. As a result red-coloured letter boxes are at risk of extinction. Postal department has confirmed that 40689 post boxes were removed from rural areas across the country during 2010 to 2014, while 62 letter boxes were removed from urban areas.

A senior officer of AP Post Circle told that removal of letter boxes is continued ever since the private courier, email and SMS are in vogue. Private couriers have taken place of Indian Postal service. Postal services are used only for government postages.
