Lets fight corruption with ‘Zero Rupee Note’

Corruption in India is one of the major problems crippling the growth of our country and even though movements like Anna Hazare’s brought forth the issue, there has been little movement on the ground.

The ‘aam aadmi’ has now started a silent revolution is in making India to fight against corruption with ‘Zero Rupee Notes’.

An NGO called 5th Pillar distributed the notes in railway stations, bus stations, schools, colleges and market places to raise awareness about bribery and reminding the public of their rights and alternative solutions that are otherwise available.

The non-profit organization had obtained more than 5 lakh signatures from citizens as a mark of endorsement to their Zero corruption pledge that “I will neither receive nor give bribe” which is printed on the bottom of the front side of the Zero Rupee Note.

“Number of factors contributes to the success of the Zero Rupee Notes in fighting corruption in India includes, ‘bribery is a crime in India punishable with suspension and jail time’.

Vijaya Anand said that, corrupt officials seldom encounter resistance by ordinary people that they become scared when people have the courage to show their Zero Rupee Notes, effectively making a strong statement condemning bribery.”

Till now, over 3 million such notes have been printed and distributed, and the movement is only getting stronger.
