On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy reiterated his commitment to ensure that the benefits of all the welfare and developmental programmes being implemented by the State government reach the poorest of the poor, as advocated by Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
Paying rich tributes to the Father of the Nation on the eve of Mahatma’s birthday to be celebrated on Wednesday, the Chief Minister recalled Gandhiji’s words that while taking up development or welfare programmes and initiating any social security schemes, we should think of the poorest of the poor. He described Mahatma Gandhi as the Apostle of peace and non-violence.
Kiran Kumar Reddy said his government would strive to realise Gandhiji’s dream of a welfare State where the people were provided with equal opportunities and where everyone lived with satisfaction.
The Chief Minister said out that majority of the people in the State are benefitted by at least four or five welfare schemes initiated by the State Government like Bangaru Talli, Amma Hastham, Indiramma Amrutha Hastham, Indiramma Kalalu (SC, ST sub plan), Re-1-a-kg rice scheme, interest free loans(‘vaddi leni runalu’) to farmers and SHG women, fee reimbursement and Post Matric Scholarships to all eligible students belonging to SC, ST, BC, EBC and Minorities; Rajiv Yuva Kirnanlu, Indiramma Houses, Indiramma Baata, Government jobs recruitment, Indira Jala Prabha, Stree Nidhi, Mee Seva etc. besides all the ongoing development and welfare schemes.
Kiran Kumar Reddy said that according to Gandhiji, poverty is the worst form of violence. Father of the Nation wanted that we should try to wipe every tear from every eye. Gandhiji also exhorted the youth of the country to “be the change what you want to see in the world”. The Chief Minister exhorted the people to maintain harmony and peace in the spirit of peaceful co-existence. He said his government stands committed to the Gandhian principles of love and truth and abolition of poverty and inequality. He sought the cooperation of all sections of the people towards achieving this.
The Chief Minister reminded the people of the basic tenets of Gandhian philosophy of truth and non-violence. The Chief Minister stated that Father of the Nation always said that “his life is his message”. Gandhiji lived a simple life and has shown to the world how to win freedom with non-violence. He taught us to fight poverty and untouchability. He believed in the philosophy of live and let live.
“Let us all work on Gandhian lines of peace, progress and equality of opportunity to one and all,” Kiran Kumar Reddy said. (INN)
