Legislative Council adjourned for the day over liquor syndicate

The Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council was adjourned for the day on Tuesday without any transactions.

As soon as the House met on Tuesday, Leader of the Opposition D Veerabhadra Rao moved an adjournment motion demanding discussion on liquor scam. He alleged that the issue was very serious and there were reports that ministers were involved in the scam.

In reaction, Tourism Minister Vatti Vasanth Kumar said that a motion once rejected could not be raised again during the same session. Agriculture Minister Kanna Laxminarayana said that the government was ready to answer all the issues, but it was not bound to reply to those questions were being raised based on newspapers clippings.

However, the TDP members started raising slogans demanding placing of ACB report on the liquor syndicate in the House. They also demanded the resignation of Excise Minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana. Following pandemonium and uproar, Council Chairman Dr A Chakrapani adjourned the House for 10 minutes.

When the House re-assembled for the second time after two hours, pandemonium was witnessed leading to adjournment of the House for the day.

Earlier, CPI, CPM and MIM gave adjournment motions on different issues where were rejected. (INN)
