Government is mulling over legislation to control marriages and illegal activities of Qazis in Hyderabad. It has expressed concert over the rising incidents of contract marriages and illegal activities of Qazis in old city. Proposals have been sought from Minority Welfare Department in this connection so that comprehensive legislation could be introduced to control such incidents. Proposals are sought from the police as well.
It must be noted there are no stringent laws under IPC Act used against Qazis and agents involved in the contract marriages as a result the accused get released easily and again indulge in such actives.
Special Secretary Minority Welfare Syed Omer Jaleel has sent a note comprising of suggestions to the government in this connection.
