Legal opinion being sought on division of Waqf Board

Government has sought legal opinion from advocate general K Ram Krishna Reddy on the issue of split of Waqf Board into two states. In this connection Secretary Minority Welfare Ahmed Nadeem and other officials met advocate general and discussed the legal aspects of Waqf Board division.

It must be noted that legal controversy erupted following appointment of Jalaluddin Akber IFS as Special Officer on June 20. It is said that no government can appoint its Special Officer before the division of Waqf Board. Since the board is under Central Waqf Act, approval of division of Waqf Board must be sought from Central government.
