Left party leaders court arrest in Tripura

Agartala, April 08: Workers and leaders of Left parties today demonstrated and courted arrest in Tripura as part of the countrywide protests against rise in prices of essential commodities.

Leaders of CPI(M), CPI, Forward Bloc and RSP criticised the economic policy of UPA government and threatened to intensify the agitation if the Centre failed to control prices.

CPI(M) spokesperson Gautam Das claimed that more than one lakh workers and leaders of the front in the state, which is ruled by the left parties, were arrested.

CPI(M) State Secretary Bijan Dhar said that despite repeated warning by left parties, the UPA government did not take any measure to check the rising prices of essential items and petroleum.
