Several leaders and workers of the Left parties were arrested by the police when they staged protest before the Best Price store of Bharati Walmart at Shivarampally here on Monday.
The activists, led by Communist Party of India state secretary K Narayana and Communist Party of India-Marxist leader BV Raghavulu, raised slogans against the Centre’s policy on the Foreign Direct Investment in the retail sector.
Narayana told reporters that the Centre’s FDI policy would lead to massive unemployment across the country. He said lakhs of people, dependant on unorganised retail sector in the country, would lose their livelihood due to the entry of foreign retail giants in the country. He demanded that the government rollback its decision immediately.
Later, the Left parties’ activities and leaders were taken into custody by the police. They were shifted to a nearby police station and released later.
