The left party leaders on Friday thanked the State Government and Assembly Speaker Nadendla Manohar for appointing Standing Committee to probe into massive irregularities which took place in the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme.
Talking to media persons at Assembly media point, Communist Party of India floor leader G Mallesh and Communist Party of India (Marxist) floor leader Julakanti Ranga Reddy hoped that the committee would probe thoroughly into the irregularities and take severe action against the officials involved in the embezzlement of funds. “Though we demanded a House Committee probe, the government has agreed for the Standing Committee probe into the issue,” they said.
Apart from serious action against the guilty, the committee should take steps for recovering the money from the officials, they said. They said that the NREGS was aimed to check migration of labour to cities by providing employment through infrastructure works in rural areas.
