Sydney, November 04: Brett Lee, who was forced to return home mid-way through the ongoing one-day series against India, underwent a scan on his elbow joint and is expected to resume bowling from next week.
”Brett has seen a specialist and CA medical staff in Melbourne.
He had a scan that confirmed the cause of the pain as being a long standing bone spur near the elbow joint. ”It is felt there is no major problem with the joint and we are optimistic that he may be able to resume bowling fairly soon, possibly some time next week,” Cricket Australia’s physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said in a statement here today.
Lee, who returned to the Australian side recently following a rib injury, sustained an elbow injury in the opening match of the seven-match ODI series at Vadodara.
The 32-year-old was unable to complete his quota of 10 overs during the first ODI against India and was not available for selection in the second match of the series in Nagpur, only to return home ahead of the third one-dayer.
The series is now level at 2-2.
Meanwhile, Tim Paine who was included in the visitors’ side as Brad Haddin’s replacement fractured the ring finger of his left hand in the opening match and also returned home.
The CA said the Tasmanian wicket-keeper doesn’t require surgery and will resume training in three weeks time.
”Tim Paine saw a hand specialist in Melbourne today and Tim doesn’t require surgery to the fractured ring finger of his left hand. He will recommence cricket training in approximately three weeks time.
”Michael (Clarke) is making good progress and it’s hoped he’ll play for New South Wales before the first Test against the West Indies,” the statement added.
