Lecturer suspended in connection with ragging incident

Thiruvananthapuram, August 26: A lecturer of a private college in Thrissur district has been suspended for allegedly trying to hush up the ragging of a physically challenged student last week and not informing the college princpal and police.

Acording to an official press release today, action against R Sunil Kumar, Mathamatics lecturer of the Sree Rama Polytechnic at Thirprayar, was taken on the basis of complaints that he had sought to settle the issue without informing the proper authorities of the incident.

The hearing and speech impaired student was allegedly beaten up by his seniors.

The victim, Nandakishore (23), who was a first year student of the college, was hospitalised with marks of injury he received on the back of his body during the ragging.

Six students were suspended in connection with the incident.
