Lebanon ex-officer confesses to spying for Israel

Beirut, August 21: A retired Lebanese police officer has confessed to spying for the Israeli government and also admitted his involvement in a deadly 2006 car bombing.

According to AFP, the 62-year-old Internal Security Forces official, confessed before a military court to having “collaborated with Israeli intelligence agents” between 1993 and 2006.

The former security official also admitted that he transported car parts from Israel to Lebanon which were used in June 2006 car bombing that resulted in the death of senior Islamic Jihad official Mahmoud Majzoub and his brother Nidal in front of their home in the southern city of Sidon.

The trial was adjourned until October 15.

Earlier, Rafeh confessed to other operations, including a bombing in August 1999 which led to the death of Hezbollah official Ali Dib.
