Of late, it has become a fashion to follow the western culture indiscriminately without giving it a second thought that what are the merits (if any) and demerits of it. Our Indian society is divided in two sections. One is where all the sins and misdeeds are forgotten and forgiven whether either a man or woman commits it.
For example, if a teenage girl became pregnant out of wedlock, it is not considered as dangerous and out of norms as in the case of a girl who belonged to the backward section of the society.
The former girl belonged to the first section and the latter, to the second section. In high society, going out of the way, especially in sexual relations, is no longer a taboo. Take the case of Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie who has adopted four children apart from having her own biological children from the partner Brad Pitt.
It is not a matter of shame or embarrassment for both of them. In fact, they are proud of it and want more biological children as Angelina Jolie once said in her recent interview.
She is made brand ambassador and had visited many countries including India and Pakistan. Here, the question is: Such people who are not the law abiders of the society’s norms, are given warm welcome but on what basis? Is it because the woman in question is a celebrity?
What happened if an ordinary girl or woman of her age had given birth to not one but three children out of wedlock? She might have faced the boycott and deserted by her own family members. The million-dollar question here is that we Indians should always be stuck to our culture, heritage, traditions and customs.
Under no circumstances, they should be entertained as they are ‘abnormal’ people who are leading a sinful life. How and why I was motivated to write this small piece? It is on the recent visit of Hollywood actress Julia Roberts who had come to India to shoot her new film and she was given a warm welcome where every movement and moment of hers covered by media.
No doubt, these ladies are best performers applauded for their acting skills. And that’s it. Going out of the way is just like accepting their lifestyle and waywardness. It is better to leave them alone.
