Leave Owaisis, we’ll support you: BJP tells KCR 2 days before results

HYDERABAD: Just two days before election results, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday said that it is ready to open to extending post-poll to alliance K Chandrashekar Rao’s Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) if the caretaker CM ditch Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM first.

“We will support TRS if it drops AIMIM and seeks our support publicly,” said Telangana BJP chief K Laxman. “No party can form the government here [Telangana] without our support,” he said.

“The TRS has to make its stand clear. If the TRS aligns with Majlis (AIMIM), there is no question of the BJP extending support to it. BJP will support non-Congress, non-Majlis party. The final decision will be taken by Amit Shah and Narendra Modi, but no party will get clear majority in Telangana,” Laxman said.

The offer of post-poll support comes after exit polls show caretaker CM KCR-led TRS is likely to storm back to power with an impressive margin in the youngest state Telangana.

The grand old party in an alliance with the TDP of Chandrababu Naidu and CPI in the morning claim that “TRS” was always “team B” for the saffron party which is why PM Modi never said anything against KCR and TRS during the election campaign.

The state BJP chief responding to the claims said, “Yes, we fought against the corrupt rule and family rule of TRS, but we will support them if we don’t get the numbers.”

About 70 percent of 2.8 crore voters voted in the single-phase polling on Friday. Vote count will take place on December 11.
