At least 500 people, mostly women, were taken ill after consuming poisonous food in several places in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain Division this evening. Inspector-General of Police (Ujjain Division) Upendra Jain told UNI that the devotees partook of the community meal on the occasion of Rishi Panchami in several villages of Ujjain, Mandsaur, Ratlam and Neemuch districts. Besides, some people also fell sick in similar incident in Rajgarh district. Mr Jain said the affected people were admitted to hospitals after complaining of diarrohea. A UNI report from Neemuch said that about hundred people were admitted to District Hospital following the complaint of diarrohea. Similarly, 80 people were admitted to a hospital in Manasa. A report from Mandsaur said 200 people from various villages in the district were admitted to hospitals. In Ratlam, at least 50 people were admitted to hospitals. Similarly, in Rajgarh district’s Jeerapur and Machalpur towns at least 50 people while in Shajapur several women were admitted to government and private hospitals. According to a government spokesman, an investigation has been ordered to find out the reasons behind the incident. UNI
