New Delhi, August 14: A group of 45 Rajasthan BJP MLAs on Friday met BJP president Rajnath Singh in a bid to pressurise him against the high command’s decision to remove Vsundhara Raje as Leader of Opposition in the state assembly.
The MLAs gathered at the residence of Singh this morning and sought a meeting with the senior leader. They were accompanied by some office bearers of the Rajasthan party unit.
These MLAs are understood to have conveyed that majority of the 78 MLAs in the state assembly were with Raje, defying the party directive.
According to reports, the state faction of the saffron party is witnessing a rebellion after the party president Rajnath Singh reportedly asked Raje to resign as Leader of Opposition over BJP’s poor showing in the recent Lok Sabha polls and her inability to keep the party intact.
The group is also looking forward to meeting the senior most BJP leader LK Advani over the issue.
BJP leader Vasundhara Raje, who is tightlipped over her party’s decision to eject her,is also expected to join her staunch loyalists in the national capital.
Although, she has not spoken against her party’s decision, her supporters have pledged to to re-elect Raje as the leader of legislature party leader if it comes to the crunch.
Raje has been under tremendous pressure to quit ever since her party lost the recent Lok Sabha elections in the state as it just managed to win only four of the 25 seats.
Raje’s opponents in state BJP faction, especially the RSS leadership have been demanding her ouster in view of the saffron brigade’s poll debacle.
