Neyveli, August 15: The Neyveli Lignite Corporation planned to venture into environmentally friendly projects utilising non-conventional energy resources like Hydropower and Wind, A R Ansari, company Chairman and Managing Director said here today.
The Corporation proposed to set up its first 50 MW wind based power plant at Tuticorin and a 1000 MW hydro power plant at Uttarakhand, he said after unfurling the tricolour at Bharati ground here on the occasion of Independence day.
He said NLC aims to increase its mining capacity from 24 Million Tonnes Per Annum (mtpa) to 79.7 MTPA and its power generation from 2490 MW to 10,000 MW.
He said three projects — TPS-II expansion, Mine-II expansion and Barsingsar were slated to be completed by 2010.
Ansari said the 1,000 MW coal based power plant of NTPL, a Joint Venture of NLC and the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board at a cost of Rs 4909 crore, would be commissioned in 2012-13
He said NLC had achieved a 11 per cent growth rate in lignite production and 25 per cent in power generation for the first quarter, despite many odds.
Ansari said NLC would continue to expand not only in Neyveli, but also in other parts of the country, for which he sought the continued assistance of workers.
