Laxman welcomes Centre’s gesture to provide quota to upper castes

Hyderabad: The BJP State unit today expressed its happiness over the decision of the Union government to provide reservations to Economically Backward Castes (EBC) upper caste people of the country.

State party president Dr K. Laxman said the decision would pave way for the provision of equal opportunities to all sections of society. He said it was the NDA government led by former PM Atal Bihar Vajpayee that set up a commission for providing reservations to the EBCs in the
country.

Laxman alleged that the Congress-led UPA government had kept aside the commission report. He said the decision of the Centre has now cleared the way for the amendment of the Constitution that keeps a limit of reservations to 50 percent. He felt that CM KCR should learn from the decision taken by the Centre and added that BCs in the State would have got justice had the ordinance to reduce their reservations was not brought in a hurried manner.
