Lawyers again allegedly attacked a journalist at Delhi’s Patiala House court premises on Wednesday, a mere two days after Media-Persons were beaten by them at the same venue.
According to reports One of the groups shouting slogans of “Bharat Mata ki Jai” and “Vande Mataram” was led by Vikram Chauhan, one of the lawyers who had assaulted JNU teachers, students and reporters on Monday.
Like on Monday, Wednesday’s alleged attacks were also ahead of a hearing on the case of JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar. Journalist alleged that that police did nothing to stop the attackers.
Acting to a Journalist petition that had alleged that the police were a “mute spectator to the brazen display of brute force” on Monday, the Supreme Court had restricted the number of people to only five reporters and two supporters of the arrested student in court today.
On Tuesday, a group of journalists met Home Minister Rajnath Singh and complained that policemen at the court allowed the attacks to continue, did nothing to intervene as reporters were kicked and beaten with sandals.
It is to be noted that, JNU student leader was arrested on charges of sedition after a controversial event held on JNU’s campus during which there were allegedly protests against the 2013 hanging of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru.
